Trego Lake District was created under the authority of Wisconsin Statutes chapter 33. Its purpose is the protection and rehabilitation of Trego Lake.
The annual meeting of the district is held every June. Residents and lakeshore owners are eligible voters. The Annual Meeting sets the budget, elects members of the Board, and approves projects. The Board of Commissioners meets quarterly.
The Board of Commissioners manages the affairs of the District in between the Annual Meetings.
